It wasn’t luck

We all know someone who’s always up to something big.

Another wild project

Another headline-worthy moment

They’re meeting the right people

Moving fast

And making it look easy.

And we assume:

  • They must’ve gotten lucky.

  • Maybe they had a connection.

  • Must’ve been handed the opportunity.

And maybe that's true.

But so is this:

At the end of the day, opportunities don't create success;

Decisions do.

They recognized the window,

They saw the value,

They knew what they could risk,

(And what they couldn’t)

They understood the tradeoffs,

And they moved when it counted.

That’s the real flex:

Clarity.

And clarity isn't the kind of thing that shows up by accident;

It’s built.

Sometimes people ask me what I do as a CFO, and maybe this is the simplest way to describe it:

I build clarity for founders

Because everyone gets opportunities,

But not everyone

Can spot them.
