Business robot

Some folks struggle to build a financial model

Because they don’t fully understand how all the parts of their business fit together.

So getting it down on paper feels too daunting.

If this is you, let's play a game:

I want you to rebuild your business,

As a robot.

Your robot runs on money.

It earns money by performing specific tasks.

It consumes money through internal processes,

Each powered by different parts.

And it spits out products or services—plus (hopefully) profit.

Now, ask yourself:

  • For each person on your team: What part of the robot do they run?

  • For each software you use: What robotic process do they enable?

  • For every dollar your robot consumes: What mechanisms in the robot made that cash available?

  • For every process to function: What relationships, infrastructure, or inputs are required?

Now, with these answers in mind:

  • How does your robot actually make money?

  • What costs are baked into keeping it running?

  • What does it cost to produce one more unit—or deliver one more hour of service?

  • And what three metrics matter most for keeping this machine efficient, responsive, and alive?

If you can build the robot,

You’re already 90% of the way to building your model.
