Not for you

One of the highest-leverage things I think you can say as a product vendor

Is who you are NOT for.

And you’ve probably heard this advice before:

“Niching down to focus on your ideal customer.”

But I think it goes beyond that:

Niching isn’t just about concentrating your marketing efforts;

It’s about trust.

It’s about the customer remembering that you had the

  • Competence

  • Self-awareness

  • Consideration

  • And confidence

To ASK what they do, what they need,

To pitch your own product on context of THEIR situation

To be 100% honest if you think they aren’t a good fit now.

To offer up your time for questions if they want it (because they or someone they know may be a fit in the future)

And to offer to end the call immediately so they can have their time back if they prefer.

In the world of startups, this is such a power move.

In the world of AI slop, it's even more powerful.

There are SO MANY channels wasting time and attention.

If you want to stand apart,

Just don't be another one.
